About the Artist
Caleb West
"If only you could see what I've seen with your eyes"

Caleb West has the passion to explore and paint the wonders surrounding us.
Caleb paints mostly in Oils. He likes to paint a variety of subjects including portraits, landscapes, still life and figures “en plein air” or in the studio.
Caleb West grew up working the family ranch in Southern Oregon, chasing cows and cutting firewood for spending money. He started photography at the age of 14 and loved making his art in the darkroom. Working for his high school and college publications provided exciting opportunities to develop his art and led to an Award for Excellence from the University of Oregon.
At 18, he went to Alaska and worked at remote logging camps, fisheries and construction, and then three years as a wilderness ranger in Oregon. In his late twenties Caleb graduated in civil engineering and used architectural, drawing and photography course work to learn new art skills. He subsequently managed large-scale performing arts, healthcare, laboratory and power construction projects. His work afforded many opportunities to capture on paper the Natural and Cultural riches of the world.
Caleb continued his adventures exploring wild areas and climbing mountains on 5 continents, diving off Zanzibar and Mexico, safari in Africa, while photographing and sketching the beautiful images of man and nature along the way. He is now working to translate those moments onto canvas.
Caleb greatly values the inspiration, knowledge and support provided by his wife Kelly (fiber artist) and artists Phillipe Gandiol, Toni Hart, Erin Hanson, Daniel James, Scott Jacobs and David Uhl. He continues to build his skills with life drawing sessions, painting classes, workshops and plein air outings.
